Format and check JSON

Paste JSON from an export, an API or a settings file. Rekenblad tells you whether it is valid, and if not, where and why. If it is, you get it back neatly indented or compact.

How it works

Format JSON in three steps

  1. Paste your JSON

    Or open a .json file.

  2. Read the verdict

If something is wrong you see the line, the column and what the problem is.

  3. Choose the layout

Two or four spaces, a tab or everything on one line. Copy or download.

Questions

Good to know

  • What are the most common mistakes?

A comma after the last item, single quotes instead of double ones, a key without quotes, True instead of true, and comments with //. Rekenblad names each of these mistakes.

  • What does sorting the keys do?

Every object gets its keys in alphabetical order, all the way down. Lists keep their order. Handy for comparing two files.

  • Is my JSON sent to a server?

No. Checking and formatting happen in your own browser.
